Gavin's endeavors into large-scale hyperrealistic images started in 1989 with LA Artist Kent Twitchell in the form of large-scale public murals overhanging major LA Freeways. Progressing into corporate commissions of larger-than-life hyper-realistic landscapes, the lines between his painting and photography blurred. Gavin's process eventually evolved into High Dynamic Range Gigapixel Panoramic Photography where he continues to push the limits of the field. In 2008 as a honoree member of Visual Effects company Xrez, he was a integral team member in the creation of the largest panorama of Yosemite Valley ever taken, a 45 giga-pixel image. Most recently the Seattle Symphony Orchestra played to his panoramic projections for: "An American Symphony", inside Seattleās Benayora Hall. His work can be found in private and public collections throughout the country. His latest public installation is in the form of a giant wall mounted Gigapixel print inside the Hotel MAYA, in Long Beach, CA. Gavin has also been pushing the evolution of interactive Gigapixel Panoramic Photography. This includes new online experiences with Silverlight Deep Zoom and Photosynth technology as well as well portable ones such as the iPhone AirCoaster app. His mission is to document the wondrous and diverse little blue ball we inhabit and hopes that, as his images exposes people to it's great diversity, it also helps inspire them in it's preservation.
